School Leadership 

Dr. Kristin Droege (Principal): 

Dr. Droege is beginning her third year as Founding Executive Director and her first as Primary Campus Principal.  Dr. Droege has been a professional educator for over 25 years teaching elementary, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as serving in administration.  Kristin has played a role in charter school leadership for the last 18 years.  She graduated from Duke University and holds a Masters and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of California - Los Angeles.

 

 


Amanda Quance (Director of Curriculum Integration & Educational Partnerships): 

Ms. Quance is heading into her third year at CWCKC.  She has spent over 10 years working in education and youth development, including 6 years in the classroom as a middle school math teacher.  Ms. Quance has taught both locally in Kansas City, Kansas and at an Expeditionary Learning School in Fort Collins, Colorado.  She earned a B.A. from Grinnell College and a Masters in Community Development from the University of California Davis.

 

Office Staff

Ms. Adkins is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will continue as our Campus Office Manager in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. in Marketing and Management from Stephens College and has worked in Administrative Services for 11 years from the Greater KC YMCA to the Metropolitan Bar Association.  Ms. Adkins’ work supports students, families, faculty, and staff, and is a key liaison to our broader community.

Mr. Taylor is beginning his second year at CWCKC and will serve as Director of ACE in 2018-2019.  He has a B.A. in English/Creative Writing from University of Central Missouri.  Prior to joining our team, Mr. Taylor has worked as a paraprofessional supporting students at the middle school level as well as in the L.I.N.C. after school program and the Boys and Girls club.

Ms. Murphy is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will coordinate our Student Services in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. from Kansas City Art Institute and an M.A. in Special Education from University of Missouri, Kansas City.  Across her 10-year career, she has worked with Special Needs students from Kindergarten through High School.

Mr. Masters is beginning his first year at CWCKC as a Special Education Teacher in 2018-2019. He has his M.A. in Early Childhood Education from Emporia State University, along with a Special Education certification. He has 10 years of experience as an Early Childhood Educator in Special Education.

Ms. Ruth is beginning her first year at CWCKC as a Student Success Implementer on our Special Education Team in 2018-2019. She has experience implementing an Infant/Toddler Lead classroom with special needs. She taught that classroom utilizing project-based learning and assessed child portfolios.

Ms. Harrington is beginning her second year at CWCKC and will serve as a Special Education ParaProfessional in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. in Education from University of Central Missouri. Her career spans 10 years as a teacher in early childhood settings.

Ms. Johnson is starting her second year at CWCKC, and her first as a Special Education ParaProfessional.  She has a Bachelor’s in both Piano and Chemistry and also serves as a Team Leader for Jumpstart, which implements literacy curriculum in preschool classrooms of underprivileged populations in the KC area.

 

 

School Social Worker 

            

               Johanna Chambers                       

Ms. Chambers is joining CWCKC as the school’s Social Worker.  She is a Licensed Master Social Worker, has a BSW from the University of Missouri, and an MSW from New York University. Prior to joining our team, she served as a Social Worker for a New York charter school, a hospital social worker, and a family advocate. 


Reading Teachers

Ms. Bett is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will be serving as a Reading Teacher and Instructional Specialist in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. from Wheaton College, and an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from University of New England. Prior to joining our team, she taught elementary school in Kansas and in Lima, Peru. Ms. Bett is bilingual in English and Spanish and serves as the ELL Coordinator for CWCKC.

Ms. Smith is beginning her first year at CWCKC as a Reading Teacher and our Library Coordinator for 2018-2019. She has a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the Federal Unversity of Bahia, Brazil. Her years of experience include Head Librarian roles at schools in Brazil and Ecuador, Yearbook Teacher, Journalism Teacher, Editor, ESL, and Kindergarten Teacher Associate.

Ms. Thomas is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will continue as a Reading Specialist for 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. from Winona State University, and an M.A. in Elementary Education from University of Missouri St. Louis.  Ms. Thomas has played an active role in supporting our assessment processes, data assessment strategies, and in helping with scheduling for the campus.

       

Enrichment Teachers

Mr. Caldwell is starting his second year at CWCKC and will teach Physical Education in 2018-2019.  Mr. Caldwell has a B.A. from McKendree College and an M.A. in Physical Education from Fresno Pacific University.  Prior to joining CWCKC, he was a Recreation Director for Kansas City Parks & Recreation as well as coaching numerous college & high school sports teams.

Ms. Moore is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will continue to teach Art in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. from Iowa State University and an M.A. in Elementary Education from University of Missouri, St. Louis.  Prior to joining us, Ms. Moore taught 2nd-3rd grade for 3 years and was a Teach For America Corps Member in Kansas City, MO.  Two years ago, she became a Fund for Teachers Fellow.

Ms. Seratte is beginning her first year at CWCKC as our Music Teacher in 2018-2019. She has a Bachelor of Music Education from UMKC, a Masters of Education from Mid-America University, and is working on her Master of Music Education from UMKC currently. Before joining CWC, she taught music in Shawnee, KS for six years


Third Grade Teachers 

        

Whitney Szczucinski             Ridley Thomas

Ms. Szczucinski is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will teach 3rd grade in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from University of Missouri, Kansas City. Prior to joining our team, Ms. Szczucinski taught 2nd and 3rd grade for several years in both Missouri and Kansas.

Mr. Thomas is beginning his second year at CWCKC and will serve as a 3rd Grade Teacher in 2018-2019, after previously serving as a Reading Specialist. He has a B.A. in French Language and Literature from University of Missouri Kansas City, and is working toward an M.A. in Special Education from University of Kansas. Prior to joining our team, Mr. Thomas had an extensive career teaching K-8 in a French immersion program. He also spent a year teaching in France, studying at La Sorbonne, and is fluent in French.


Second Grade Teachers

Ms. Calderon is beginning her first year at CWCKC as a 2nd Grade Teacher in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. in Child Advocacy and Applied Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology and is currently working on her M.A. in Special Education and Behavior Analysis from Ball State.  Before joining CWCKC, she worked with students on the autism spectrum who had high needs for support.

Ms. Schoen is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will be teaching 2nd Grade in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. from University of Kansas and an M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Rockhurst University.  Ms. Schoen has experience teaching visual arts, dance, and has spent time teaching abroad in the Dominican Republic.

Ms. Wortham is beginning her first year at CWCKC as a 2nd Grade Teacher for 2018-2019. She has a Master of Education in Elementary Education from University of Missouri-Columbia, and a B.S. in Education from Stephens College. Before joining CWC, she also taught 2nd Grade.

Ms. York is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will be teaching 2nd Grade in 2018-2019.  She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from University of Kansas.  Prior to joining our team, Ms. York also supported student learning as a teaching associate in an early childhood center and through the parks and recreation program in Kansas.


First Grade Teachers

Ms. Deibel is beginning her first year at CWCKC teaching 1st grade in 2018-2019. She graduated from University of Missouri Kansas City with a degree in Urban Elementary Education and has worked for five years at Crossroads Academy as a 3rd Grade Teacher before joining CWC.

Ms. Kidd is beginning her first year at CWCKC teaching 1st grade in 2018-2019. She has as B.S. in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University. She has previous experience teaching 2nd Grade and Kindergarten.

Mrs. Gardner is beginning her second year at CWCKC and will serve as a 1st Grade Teacher in 2018-2019.  She has a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Iowa State University.  Prior to joining us, Ms. Gardner spent three years teaching in a preschool setting as a teacher and assistant director.

Ms. McGirt is beginning her first year at CWCKC as a 1st Grade Teacher. She holds a B.A. from Neumann University and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Lincoln University. She has previous experience as a Substitute Teacher and a 2nd Grade Literary Support Teacher in Philadelphia, PA.

 

Kindergarten Teachers

Ms. Boisnard is beginning her second year at CWCKC and will teach Kindergarten in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. from the University of Missouri and is working on an M.A. in Early Childhood from Johns Hopkins University for completion in 2018. Prior to coming to CWCKC, Ms. Boisnard was a Pre-K teacher and a Teach for America Corps Member in Kansas City, MO.

Ms. Caldwell is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will continue teaching Kindergarten in 2018-2019.  She has a B.S. in Education from University of Central Missouri and taught Kindergarten in other settings for 7 years prior to joining us.

Ms. Gibbs is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will continue teaching Kindergarten in 2018-2019.  She has a B.S. from University of St. Mary and an AMS Montessori Certification.  Across her 16-year teaching career, she has worked in early childhood settings including specialized settings for supporting children experiencing trauma.

Ms. Richardson is beginning her third year at CWCKC and will be teaching Kindergarten in 2018-2019.  She has a B.M.E. from University of Missouri Kansas City Music Conservancy.  Prior to joining our team, Ms. Richardson taught elementary music for PK-5th grade, as well as private piano, guitar, and voice lessons.

 

Teaching Associates, Kindergarten

Ms. Herron is beginning her first year at CWCKC and will serve as a Kindergarten Teaching Associate in 2018-2019. She graduated from Penn Valley Metropolitan Community College with a degree in Education and Child Growth Development. She has experience in early childhood at the YMCA and Headstart, and has taught most recently at The Children’s Place and The Goddard School in Shawnee, KS.

Ms. Maliqis is beginning her second year at CWCKC and will serve as a Kindergarten Teaching Associate in 2018-2019. She has a B.A. in Communications from Kansas State University.

Ms. Thomson is starting her first year at CWCKC and will be a Kindergarten Teaching Associate in 2018-2019.  She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University and has experience as a lead Pre-K teacher. 

Ms. Wilson is beginning her third year at CWCKC and is returning as a Kindergarten Teaching Associate in 2018-2019.  She has a B.A. in Education from the University of La Verne.  Prior to joining our team, Ms. Wilson had a career as a substitute teacher as well as working within the L.I.N.C. after school program.
